本書收錄作者多年來在比較文學研究上的努力成果。內容深入探索中國古典文學及其英譯，對當代美國詩歌在內容與形式上所產生的影響，同時也探究了二十世紀後半期以降台灣、香港女作家與美國女詩人之創作，如何在女性主義與性別意識衝擊下，產生內涵與風格上的變化與創新。此外，對於美國當代詩人如何吸收中國傳統山水意識，以及國際知名導演胡金銓，如何在電影作品中呈現中國山水畫藝術和佛教思想，皆有精闢的探討。

This book investigates the influence of Chinese classical literature and its English translation on the contents and forms of contemporary American poetry and songs. Meanwhile it explores how under the influence of feminism and gender awareness the writings of female writers in Taiwan and Hong Kong and American female poets have been changed and innovated in content and in style. Moreover, this book contains an insightful discussion on how contemporary American poets absorb the traditional cultural consciousness of Chinese landscape.

鍾玲

學者、小說家、詩人。美國威斯康辛大學麥迪遜分校比較文學博士；曾任教於美國紐約州立大學艾伯尼分校比較文學系、香港大學中文系、台灣中山大學英文系、香港浸會大學比較文學系等；歷任中山大學文學院院長，香港浸會大學比較文學講座教授、文學院院長、協理副校長，澳門大學書院院長。著有《現代中國繆司：台灣女詩人作品析論》、《美國詩與中國夢：美國現代詩中的中國文化模式》、《美國詩人史耐德與亞洲文化：西方吸納東方傳統的範例》、《史耐德與中國文化》、《中國禪與美國文學》等書。
