Do I Dare Disturb the Universe?

The ending was not exactly what I would have expected! I felt disgusted by how the human nature could be so cruel and disgusting in the book after reading it. I think that the writer was sending a negative message to the world, which is "do not disturb the universe; Otherwise, you might face a serious consequence". But my hubby has different opinion than mine. He thinks that the writer was just trying to tell the whole world that a real world is cruel and people would just do anything to protect themselves.
